On our first day in Vancouver, we saw a huge line up for a tiny gelateria near the waterfront (right beside the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel). We decided with a line up like that, it must be good! We finally made it there on our last day in the city.
Bella Gelateria has a window full of “best gelato in the world” competition wins. That obviously has made it pretty popular… leading to line ups!
It also has a very simple system of three steps to deal with those line ups. First, Decide if you want a cup or a cone, and if you want one, two or three flavours. Then, tell the cashier what you want, pay for it and take your ticket to the gelato counter. Final step, pass your ticket to the person at the gelato counter and tell them your flavour choices.
Seems simple right? Well, not so much for the guy in front of us who didn’t seem to understand lines. If he wasn’t turned around facing us behind him in line, he was wandering out of line, then mixing up the order of what he should be doing/ordering… and of course… he couldn’t make any decisions.
Thankfully, the gelato was completely worth the gong show of this guy in line (as everyone else seemed to really know what they were doing and it moved quite quickly). We both chose two flavours in a cup. Mine was amerena cherry and salted organic hazelnut. David chose akbar mashti (rosewater, saffron and pistachio) and amerena cherry.
Completely delicious and unique flavours to enjoy out in the beautiful sunshine!
