The moment we landed in Victoria early this afternoon, we made it our mission to quickly check into our downtown hotel by the inner harbour and get to the business of eating!
We chose Cactus Club on Douglas Street for our first dining experience on this trip. We have been here before and love the cool and relaxed ambience in the lounge side, which is where we chose to sit again.
It is a bit chilly and damp here today (but feels like a sea breeze compared to the absolutely frigid temperatures we left behind in Saskatchewan!), so I chose a Caesar. It was delicious, with a great spicy kick and a stick of mozza, olive, pepper and onion to munch on. One of the best Caesar’s I have ever had.
We decided to have small bites here today, in anticipation of a larger dinner later tonight. So, I chose the Ravioli and Prawn Trio. The ravioli was stuffed with butternut squash and marscapone, topped with a perfectly cooked prawn and a just the right amount of truffle butter sauce and pine nuts. The stuffing in the ravioli was divine and the sauce was light but decadent. It reminded me of buttered popcorn.
Dave and I also split the Szechuan Beans – a simple dish of crisp green beans sautéed with shallots and serrano peppers. I loved the kick and couldn’t get enough of these beans. This was probably the standout dish for both of us. Sometimes simple and fresh is the best.
Dave chose the Mini Burgers made of angus beef and topped with cheddar, cider smoked bacon and a red pepper relish. It was a really well balanced bite-sized burger that was tasty and not sloppy at all.
We are very happy we chose the Cactus Club to start our Victoria vacation… it never lets us down!
