What a great start to a long travel day! David drove me to the airport in Regina to see me off, and I got a coffee and settled into a comfy chair away from the crowds. And then I realized I forgot my ipad/iphone charging cords. Thankfully, the Regina airport has a nice new store after security, and I was able to buy just what I needed so I can blog away on this trip! Really, what would a trip be without forgetting something…
I had an excellent Air Canada flight to Toronto – took 2.5 hours and I realized I LOVE being in the exit row! How did I not get in on this sooner? So much leg room, and much more comfortable. Note to self, try for these seats in future.
I also tried out a new playlist on this flight. I downloaded hours of ambient sound/music (think spa) in the hopes it will help me sleep on my long flight to Buenos Aires. “Keep Calm and Chill Out” did just that! I don’t know if it will help me sleep, but it will keep me feeling zen. I need it, as I find it hard to relax on flights – maybe due to the cramped quarters, the thought of being so far up, and strange sounds and stranger people.
Two other things made the flight great – the book David gave me and the travel scarf my brother Wade and sister-in-law Alanna gave me a couple of years ago. The scarf can be a shawl for sleeping, or a travel style statement… totally love it. I am also engrossed in “Imagining Argentina” – a book from the 80s that David read in university. Bringing Argentina’s difficult past and “the disappeared” to life for me.
I have a really long layover. Arrived in Toronto at 3:30 p.m. and my flight leaves at 11:45 p.m. Fortunately, I get to see Wade, Alanna and Sydney for dinner during that time. I also booked a room at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel (in terminal 3 of Pearson Airport). I learned a long time ago that the cost of a room, even for just a few hours, is completely worth the moments of quiet it brings on a long travel day.
It did take a bit longer to get here (about 15 mins instead of 5) when the train between terminals got stuck (problems with the doors opening and closing).
My room is nice and big… and really quiet! I plan to have a snooze, and then head out to see my family!
