One of my favourite things to do on a beautiful summer night is to head to the La Bodega patio and enjoy a glass of red wine and good conversation with friends.

I used to live across the alley from La Bodega, and I don’t go nearly as often since I moved a couple of years ago. The first thing I noticed is that the menu has changed again and is quite a bit smaller. I don’t think that’s a bad thing because old favourites are still on the menu. I also noticed wine is 50 per cent off… every night! Good for customers, but not sure that’s a good sign for La Bodega.

La Bodega is best when you share dishes… We chose mushroom strudel (my favourite) and the Brie Plank (my friend’s favourite dish). The mushroom strudel filling was as warm and gooey and delicious as I remember, but the pastry crust is a bit lighter (though still tasty). It was served with a tomato sauce… that didn’t work for me. The strudel is best all on its own.

The Brie Plank was a perfect summer dish… warm Brie with roasted garlic, walnuts, apple and crostini. I especially loved the roasted garlic!

Another great summer evening at La Bodega! Though I do have to mention the service had us laughing at points. The servers had no idea who ordered what, so every dish that came outside was offered around until the right table was found. Overall it seems like La Bodega is in transition. I hope for the better.
