The popular pizza restaurant chain Famoso hit the Regina downtown scene a couple of months ago, and I finally got the chance to check it out over the weekend.
David and I tried to visit when it first opened, and with a line up out the door, and a one hour wait, we decided against it. On this night with friends, we only had to wait a bit at the bar for a table – a good sign that it is still busy.
I like the decor inside and the nice high ceilings. I also like being able to watch the kitchen staff making the pizzas right beside you.
I decided to try out a non-traditional small pizza for one – the Verde. This pizza made of sautéed kale, caramelized onions, roasted garlic, goat cheese and Kalamata olives was a really interesting taste choice. I loved the kale, olives and onions, but I found the pizza bit soggy in the middle (partly because I took a little longer to eat it, gabbing the night away with friends). Next time, I really want to try one of the more traditional spicy meat pizzas. I absolutely loved my side gorgonzola walnut salad, and will definitely have that again.
My friends chose the soup and salad option, and raved about the fire-roasted tomato bisque (especially the feta cheese topping) and enjoyed their side caesar salad.
Overall, a fun and convenient place to go for a drink and a pizza. A great new addition to Regina’s growing downtown food scene.
