You notice graffiti all around you in Argentina. It’s impossible not to notice. I was fascinated to learn that Argentina is the only place in the world where people can paint graffiti during the day – it isn’t illegal. Because of that, graffiti artists come here from all over the world.
The people of Argentina were oppressed and censored during the late 70s and early 80s, and have emerged from that period strongly believing the streets are theirs. They can and will say what they think in the form of protests, and express themselves visually through graffiti. That graffiti is often political in nature, but can also be comical and incredibly beautiful.
David always photographs graffiti wherever we go, so this was my turn to capture a few images for him.
