One of our goals on this trip was to try out new restaurants, and not just stick to old favourites. We heard great things about Hillside Winery and Bistro, and are so glad we chose it for one of our first dinners in Penticton!

The first thing you notice when you arrive is the lovely wood building, surrounded by a vineyard. At this time of year, you also get to sit outside and enjoy the terrace (upstairs for a fantastic view, or on the main floor for less of a view, but just as lovely).

We weren’t planning on an appetizer, but as soon as our server mentioned “charcuterie board” David’s eyes lit up and we had to try it. Paired with a fantastic Merlot – Cabernet Franc (that we ended up buying two bottles of), it was a wonderful start. We especially loved the spicy mustard that came with the thinly sliced bison, elk and ham.

David chose the Duck with beets and potatoes, and really loved the cherry sauce that brought it all together.

I chose the chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy (really amazing mashed potatoes)! It came with heirloom tomatoes from the area that were also fantastic.

We were having such a lovely time that we decided to go all in and order a dessert to share. We heard the black forest cake was delicious, so we tried that. We were so impressed when the dish came out! Gorgeous plate of bites of cake, with a fanastic espresso flavoured ice cream and creme freche to go with it! Delicious!

Overall, we were thrilled with the whole experience – and may have found a new favourite in Hillside Winery and Bistro!
