The Hooded Merganser is a really beautiful restaurant right on the waterfront in Penticton, behind the Epenticton Lakeside Resort. It mostly specializes in seafood and we felt it would be a relaxed and healthy option on the night before David’s big race.
The smoke from forest fires in the U.S. was acting up again, so the normally fabulous view was just “good” this time around, and the usually busy terrace was empty. Even so, we enjoyed the view and watching some paddle boarders make their way back in to shore.
Before our main dishes, we chose an appetizer of roasted garlic, brie and naan bread. Mixed with some pesto, this was a delicious starter!
We each decided to go for seafood for our main meal (since it really is the specialty of this restaurant). I chose the halibut and David chose the arctic char. Both were cooked to perfection.
While the Hooded Merganser isn’t cheap, it’s a staple in Penticton for a reason. Excellent service, fantastic food, amazing view. All around a memorable meal.
