Nice offers one of the most stunning, and famous, views in the world – the curve around the Promenade Des Anglais. We chose Hotel Suisse as our Nice hotel to see that view every day… and it was heavenly.

Hotel Suisse is situated right at the famous curve – if you see postcards and photos of Nice, this is the vantage point where those photos are taken. People hike up stairs right beside the hotel to see this view. The moment we entered our top (fifth) floor room, we were in awe of this beautiful view (and the champagne that the hotel left for us in honour of our honeymoon). We toasted the view on our little terrace (just enough room for a small table and two chairs).. and took in the action of the Promenade and the sound of the sea tides on the rock beach below.

The view really is the calling card of this hotel. We started and ended every day on our little terrace and loved every moment of it. We took full advantage of the espresso maker in our room, and came to really love this morning ritual.

Our room was small, but really lovely. The bed was very comfortable, and I was amazed by the ability of the terrace doors to shut out all the noise from the street below when closed. The hotel is right on the busy street below, and we asked for a high floor to ensure the quietest stay possible… it worked well for us.

The bathroom was also small and functional. The only downside for me was the typical hairdryer in european hotels – basically a reverse vacuum hose! I never had a good hair day in Nice because of it!

The hotel is an older one, and built right into the mountain beside it. That means the layout is a bit quirky – each floor is a little larger or smaller based on where it is in the mountain. Because it’s older, the elevator is really really tiny (much like many european hotels). It barely holds two people, and luggage can be an issue.

The hotel would be difficult to stay in if you had mobility issues, in part because of the small elevator and the long waits to catch that elevator. Being on the fifth floor, we always walked down the stairs… and hiked up five floors many times (not easy)!

The hotel location is perfect, right beside Old Nice and the Cours Saleya market (filled with restaurants). We always chose to find our own breakfast, rather than the breakfast in the hotel. So many options to find a Breakfast Francais (croissant, bread and jam with a cafe creme) or a Breakfast Anglaise (same croissant, bread and cafe creme with eggs and bacon for David).

We loved this location and our little terrace so much! Especially after walking further down the Promenade and seeing the many touristy restaurants and simple views of the sea. We loved watching life around us, the beach below us and the quick walk into Old Nice or the Port around the other side of the mountain. Hotel Suisse was a wonderfully relaxing end to our honeymoon, and the perfect choice of hotel!
