The Gerbara Hotel in Hue (38 Le Loi Street) is about a block away from the historic and beautiful Perfume River. While not waterfront, it is close enough and the hotel has beautiful views of the river and a lovely bridge that lights up in the evenings.
Across the bridge a little ways is the Citadel (one of the main tourist attractions of Hue). You could walk there, but on hot and humid days it is far enough that you should consider a car, motorbike or bus.
The lobby of the hotel is very modern, and wood is a main design feature there and in each of the rooms. I loved my room (very spacious) and the large bathroom and excellent shower are a great bonus. Many people on my tour commented on the large window in the bathroom (so everything is on display!). This wasn’t an issue for me, as I was staying on my own. However, there is a blind to draw down for privacy. I think it is a fun design feature (but the blind is a good idea!).
The bed was a bit larger than a king (as I think it was a twin and double pushed together). Not the most comfortable bed I have ever had, but good for two nights. The complimentary buffet breakfast is excellent with offerings from western and Vietnamese cuisine, and the pool area is just outside the restaurant. The pool is a little on the small side, and I didn’t have a chance to try it (because I had such little time in Hue). The staff were all lovely, and the room was cleaned and prepared very well each day.
The affordable cost of this four star hotel (about $70 CDN/night), combined with its lovely location and river views, made this a very enjoyable stay for the money.
