Best. Tacos. Ever!
La Taqueria Pinche Taco Shop is as gorgeous a little joint to walk into, as the food is delicious. Fantastic colours, incredibly affordable prices, warm ambience and very friendly and inviting staff. Not to mention the 80s oldies playing loud and proud (who can’t chair dance to Eye of the Tiger by Survivor or Relax by Frankie Goes to Hollywood??). We love this place!
David had been to La Taqueria on a previous visit to Victoria and raved about his experience. There are three other locations in Vancouver, and this one in downtown Victoria. They make their own tortillas here, with a mill to soak the corn and grind their own masa on site. The tortillas are tiny, small and thin (about the size of a palm), and incredibly fresh. La Taqueria uses two tortillas per taco, so you never have to worry about them ripping.
The menu is quite diverse, and it took us a while to decide what we wanted – because it all looked amazing!
I decided to try two vegetarian tacos for the amazingly low price of $2.50 each! The Hongos Con Kale vegan taco of mushrooms and kale with salsa verde was satisfying, but my favourite was the Rahas Con Cream of roasted poblano peppers with creamed corn, sour cream and Mexican cheese. It was really delicious!
David had two meat tacos at $3.00 each. He enjoyed the Asada flank beef taco, but the Tinga De Pollo taco was off the hook delicious! The mix of chicken with chorizo in a chipotle tomato sauce, topped with Mexican cheese and sour cream was so fantastic that we bought two more to enjoy together.
From now on, a visit to Victoria (or Vancouver) won’t be complete without a visit to La Taqueria! The value for the money, and the delicious and unique menu make this taco place a true stand out!
