Heading down to “the end of the earth” in Ushuaia, I wasn’t really anticipating extra special accommodation. I anticipated more of a budget hotel as part of my Broad Escapes/G Adventures tour, and that’s what we got. However, I was absolutely thrilled with the view at the Las Lengas Hotel in the lobby and restaurant the moment we arrived. I also really liked the big comfy red chairs!
Here in Ushuaia, it really is all about the beauty outside, which is where I spent most of my time anyway. The hotel itself is a bit of a hike from the main street (up a steep hill and a few blocks away), but that hike always gave me a chance to stop and take a moment (while catching my breath) to enjoy that beauty around me.
The rooms are very small. Having a room to myself meant it wasn’t that big of an issue for me. But, my travel mates noted that it was very tiny for two people to share. My view was also of a construction project outside (but the mountains in the distance were what I was focusing on).
The biggest issue for me was the radiator in the bathroom. It was set on full blast hot, and I had absolutely no idea how to turn it down! Everything I tried just didn’t work. As a cold-blooded Canadian, it was just too hot for me. Obviously, I could have asked how to work the radiator (as the staff were very friendly the entire visit) – but I spent such little time in my room I basically just slept there (with the window open as a counter to the radiator heat).
Overall, the Las Lengas Hotel was enjoyable for me in Ushuaia. I would probably recommend a stay closer to the main street if you want to be closer to the action, or want to avoid a long walk. But, the location on the top of a hill really made for a nice view and a quiet place to sleep.
