Among the many incredible things about the Mercer Hotel in Barcelona, is its Tapas bar – Le Bouchon.
We booked our hotel through Mr. and Mrs. Smith.. a boutique hotel membership club, that provides great deals to fantastic hotels like the Mercer. I recommend it if you are looking for a hotel that is extra special and on the smaller side. As part of our booking, Mr. and Mrs. Smith provided a welcome drink and three Tapas at Le Bouchon. We would have gone to Le Bouchon anyway, but this was a nice add on (free is always good)!
We really love the rustic decor and fun way that the bar pulls it all together with bottles for the wine list, bulls on the wall and taking full advantage of the old roman wall that the hotel is built into.
The Tapas itself was wonderful. Our choices for the welcome Tapas was a ham croquette (so creamy), patatas bravas (potatoes in a tomato sauce with some aioli) and calamari. I am not a calamari fan usually, but this was a great dish that even I enjoyed (no rubbery or chewy texture to contend with).
Because we enjoyed it all so much, we decided to get the beautiful iberico ham and actually pay for something while we were here! This thinly sliced cured ham is famous for a reason – it is salty goodness through and through!
We had seen some not so great reviews of this place, and knew a hotel as great as the Mercer would also have a great bar. The thing about online reviews is that some people are never satisfied. In this case, we can’t understand how that could ever be so at Le Bouchon!
