What better way to ring in a new year, than to reminisce fondly about the old? David and I have been saving goodies from our honeymoon in Barcelona for New Year’s Eve… and we had a great tapas celebration for two last night (with our cats looking on, of course).
We started with gorgeous Rioja red wine that we bought at the Barcelona airport duty free store on our way home. It was unlike any duty free place I’ve ever been, as we got to sample many wines before landing on this one (and it was as good as we remembered)!
David fried up piquillo peppers stuffed with manchego and applewood cheddar cheese.. this is so easy and one of my favourite things that he makes.
Then, we thoroughly enjoyed the Iberico ham that we have been saving for this night. It’s really hard to explain why this ham is so good – but it isn’t considered the best in the world for nothing. Aged and cured for two years, it is really special.
Our main course of the night was a hot and spicy trio of shrimp, scallops and chorizo, with tomato toast that is prevalent everywhere in Barcelona. It really reminded us of the fantastic tapas that we enjoyed in Spain. I know it’s a place that will always be special to us, and we may visit again someday.
We watched the ball drop in Times Square on TV – the CNN coverage with Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin is hilarious and my New Year’s tradition (much better than being there in person)! David and I loved our quiet night in, and wish everyone a happy, healthy and joy-filled 2015!
