The James in Saskatoon is one of our favourite hotels, and we were so happy to return after our first visit in 2013.
The James is a boutique hotel that promises – and delivers on – a quality, high-end experience. It’s situated at the end of the Sheraton Cavalier hotel. While physically part of the same building, The James is smaller, quieter and feels like it’s just for adults (without access to the big waterpark in the adjacent hotel). The vibe is cool, hip and elegant.
While we enjoyed the studio room on our last visit, we chose a one bedroom this time around. The bonus here is lots of extra space in the living room, and a separate bedroom with an incredibly comfortable king sized bed. We had a great sleep here both nights. Did I mention it’s really quiet?!
The amenities that come with the room are lovely. The Keurig coffee maker has six different choices of pods from coffee to tea to hot chocolate. The bathroom is spacious and pretty, and the L’Occitane toiletries are fantastic.
Our favourite part of the one bedroom is the large balcony overlooking the river and Spadina Avenue. We spent one evening just enjoying the weather, the beautiful view and people watching (with a great bottle of Blasted Church “Holy Moly” Okanagan wine).
Too top it all off, there is a complimentary breakfast each day that is truly stellar. A chef prepared David Eggs Benedict one day, and a breakfast quesadilla the next. I enjoyed the buffet offerings of scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, breakfast burrito, cheeses and even a berry smoothie that was just like what I make at home every morning.
