One of the reasons we decided to stay the Burrowing Owl Estate on our recent trip to Oliver, was from the view of the property at a previous visit to the fantastic Sonora Room. So of course, we couldn’t pass up another great meal at this wonderful restaurant while staying at the estate.

As noted, the view at this hotel is amazing – overlooking the estate and the vineyard below. If you can, get a seat on the patio that wraps around the restaurant, it is worth it!

 

 

The food here is always exquisite, and this visit was no exception – beginning with wonderful fresh bread, and a nice tuna amuse bouche.

 

 

Our starters were delicious. I had a potato and ginger puree soup with crumbled blue cheese. Light and decadent. David chose the spring asparagus with mushrooms, truffle arancini and smoked feta.

 

 

We both chose the same entree (which almost never happens), and it was as delicious as it sounded. The roasted chicken special with lentils (cooked with cinnamon), asparagus and a sour cherry and rosemary sauce was divine!

 

Being in a vineyard, the Sonora Room features an extensive Burrowing Owl wine list. The Burrowing Owl Cabernet Franc was a great wine for the night – which sadly was already sold out in the wine shop so we couldn’t take any home with us.

Overall, this lovely restaurant and property remains a favourite of ours. If you are in Oliver, be sure to seek it out!
