We spent our first night in Vancouver at a fantastic restaurant right in our hotel – the Four Seasons. So glad we did!
YEW Seafood and Bar is very highly rated for seafood in Vancouver, with award winning chef Ned Bell at the helm. It was exactly the start to the trip we hoped for.
We started by choosing a BC wine – the Riesling from Tantalus winery. We have some of this at home from our trip to Penticton last year, and it was just as wonderful as we imagined. It also paired well with our two appetizers.
The best of the night was the crab ravioli – so fresh and original! The crab ravioli was hiding under a vibrant pea foam, and fresh peas and bamboo shoots.
Our second appetizer was also wonderful – a tangy mix of BC spot prawns with fried cauliflower and curry and citrus accents. The prawns were delicious, and the cauliflower was a real delight.
With such original flavours to start our meal, David and I continued with a focus on seafood.
I chose the roasted seafood mixed grill. It was perfectly light and highlighted the freshness of the fish – sablefish, Arctic char and scallops (my favourite). I learned that I love fennel with this dish (perfectly sweet and light).
David chose the Paella special and really enjoyed all of the flavours.
To end the night, we decided to get a cheese plate (so much more fun than a traditional dessert).
Unexpectedly, we received two delightful slivers of chocolate to end the night (each with a spicy twist).
YEW was quite busy on this night, as it was Mother’s Day, and we can see it is a Vancouver favourite. The service was impeccable and the flavours were fresh and original.
